A Pale Horse, A Family Tree

Dusk here in Lower Down after a bone-crushingly cold day in what must rank as one of the coldest counties in England. I've no idea why this should be so, but in my experience it's a thing. Still, we went for a pub lunch at The White Horse, Clun; our most regular watering hole down here in a quarter of a century or so of holidaying down here. I've mentioned my family connection to the place before [blog posts passim], and as meeting up with recently-discovered cousin yesterday got us talking about things familial and how and where sundry folks fit into the family tree, it's apposite that I mention it in passing here.

I was checking on my niece's progress on her version of the tree this afternoon, and note that she's made significant progress with it, including a side-branch of which I was hitherto unaware. Must look into that one at some point, but currently I'm trying to pick the bones out of the possible [probable?] Quaker connection. Given the size of the clan and the readiness of it to produce offspring on an annual basis for the good 250 or 300 years that is my current window, and the relatively sparse population [even to this day in the more rural parts of Herefordshire where most of our family hail from] of the area they emanate from, and given they've had sporadic connections with Radnorshire across the Welsh border; I'd say that the connection tends more towards the probable. I've just got to tie it all together, first.

Anyhow, the weather is - hopefully - going to warm up over the next few days, and I might just be able to sit here in the dining room and write - the fire's on now, for God's sake, and it's still freezing - without the tendons in my hands seizing up with the cold. Now I've finished this scribble, it's time for another beer and a retreat into the sitting room where there is a bit more warmth: old houses, eh?  BTW, pictured is landlord Jack Limond of the White Horse and his wife, accepting a certificate from the Campaign for Real Ale: CAMRA, just as we sat down to eat!
