Time To Hit The Brakes...

Politics, domestic and foreign, is now in such a collective state of discombobulation it beggars comprehension. Domestically we are in thrall to the biggest collection of near-far-right clowns that this archipelago has ever seen in power. That they are haemorrhaging voter support by the bucket-load is but scant comfort in the face of the damage they have already done to our economy and public services, let alone whatever further carnage they can wreak in the dying months of their tenure. The Labour Party will be left to clean up the biggest toxic waste dump imaginable after the demise of this pitiful excuse for an administration: a task I wouldn't wish on my worst enemy. It's going to be a rough ride, especially given the current ethos of a populace so reactionary - in real-time - that negative opinion and cant rule the roost on social(? - really?) media, with the default stance being 'kill everyone but whomever I happen to follow this millisecond'.

Internationally, we have two major wars that no-one in the international diplomatic community seems to be willing to engage with in any rational sense, other than value signal; and that the hate-filled and politically partial media machine seem intent on fuelling, rather than reporting impartially: I exclude the BBC from this, as I think that given the constraints of their charter, they are doing a good job treading the very fine line between factual reportage and the biassed op-ed of most of mainstream media.

On top of all this, we have a political contest in the US - still the major, global political and economic force - where a dangerous and frankly deranged ex-President: one Donald Trump - is being allowed by some constitutional nicety to continue to run for re-election, despite being under arraignment for both state and federal felonies: attempting to influence electoral outcomes and incitement to insurrection. I think the US needs yet another amendment to its constitution before the far-right clown gets another stab at office.

On balance I think we might just have a better chance here of shutting down the threat to our democracy, such as it is, than they have over the pond. One can only hope that common sense will prevail. It didn't in 1930s Germany. We need to back away from our collective media image and get down to some proper hard work. The real world and its (real) people have a very short time to get back to reality, before it's simply too late to undo the political, economic and climatic damage these fuckwits are imposing on us...
