The World Keep On Turning Redux

How long, how long; how-bloody-long do we have to put up with the current crop of laissez-faire, lazy and destructive bastards who 'run' this world - this archipelago particularly? Everywhere you look, on every page of any decent newspaper turned, in every news item on any decent news medium, there is failure writ large. Failure of governance, failure of state, failure of business itself. Our current party of government might be Conservative in name, but its founders would not recognize it in its present form. Conserve they do not. Govern they do not. Shoulder responsibility for their actions they do not. They are the very antithesis of their own founding principles, whether you agree with those or not.

Rotting, cut-price concrete is an apt metaphor for the way things are generally 'done' these days. Capitalism and its apologists are rapidly eating away at its very foundations, with the pursuit of money both for its own sake, and as a foundational philosophy of its behaviour, acting to destroy itself from within by distorting the economy to the point where the vast majority of its erstwhile participants are shut out. Where wages/salaries for the many mean nothing, as income struggles to get anywhere near covering overheads and outgoings: people, out of sheer desperation, further distort the economy by relying on credit to cover essentials that in any normal, civilized society would be covered by earnings. It's an indicator of how far to the hard right this lot has travelled that they routinely characterize the Labour Party as extreme left radicals in the pockets of 'the union barons'. Any sane, cursory glance at the nature of the current Labour opposition tells you that they are, at best, currently on the soft right of centre of British politics: anyone viewing them as extreme has, by definition, to stand to the right of Genghis Khan, politically.

We are not in a happy place at the moment: the climate is buggered, and they're ignoring it; the NHS is buggered, and they're ignoring it; state schools and hospital buildings are falling apart, and they're ignoring it; councils are going bankrupt left, right and centre: and they're ignoring it. They can't even manage the economy itself; preferring their default position of guarding their and their own kind's wealth over the health, wealth and wellbeing of the very society that gave them their jobs in the first place. Their idea of a response to anything and everything problematic in their view, is to vaguely promise a review and report of some kind, at some point in an indeterminate future. We are now beyond pathetic and into the realms of the death of civilized society. We need significant change. Now...
