A Pebble for John

Mor ddiderfyn ar môr,

Mor nyth ol âr llanw

As endless as the ocean,

As timeless as the tides

We went for a walk down to Porth Ceiriad this morning and I had to stop to tie my bootlaces at a viewpoint bench, where I found the inscription above carved into its seat. Along the beach I picked up a pebble and placed it on the rocks as the tide was coming in: a fleeting, evanescent memorial to my old friend: a casting back of the temporary into time itself.
