A Good Planting Day
I've made a start on the cottage fire exit door - I decided to salvage the original by extending the two side edges by 1/2" apiece, so that the gap that had formed is now closed. Judicious use of foam draught excluder tape should give it a pretty good seal against the elements: as it will rarely be opened (hopefully not in an emergency either!) it should last well. I've given the exterior a coat of paint and I'll finish the other side tomorrow, fit the draught excluder and replace it in the frame.
We planted something to climb the archway I put in last year as an entrance to the top of the side garden: a Clematis Montana Rubens, the softness of which will contrast nicely with its rather spinier Firethorn opposite number. Hole dug, planted and watered in: the last gardening act of the day.
