'Appy Xmas?

It's difficult to know where to look or how to pitch things at the moment. England's back in lockdown, at least until - for some areas, possibly not - the Xmas un-lockdown; which will no doubt see a New Year spike in Covid infections, blah, blah, etc. followed inevitably by yet further locking down, und so weiter, ac yn y blaen... Here in Wales, it looks as if we're back in some  kind of restrictive regime again from a week Friday. It wouldn't be so bad if the reported statistics we're getting daily were even vaguely consistent. One day we're told one thing, the next the opposite. Up, down, plateauing; ding, dong bell.

We're just keeping our heads down until after Xmas and hope that someone, somewhere, hopefully with a modicum of authority and some degree of appropriate knowledge and expertise will just let us know what the bloody hell is actually going on. I'll be back in my workshop tomorrow; on my tod with Radio 4 and a load of sawdust. Let us know when the world settles back on its axis.

Godspeed those with good intentions, the skill and the will to sort things out, if not the pandemic itself [a tall order, even for God]...

Fröhliche Weihnachten, Nadolig Llawen, etc... Maybe this Christmas we'll just focus on some real values and not simply the  usual secular ritual of consumer indulgence the festival has bloatedly been for far too long. See you all on the other side.

  1. Interesting comment on the TV from an eminent epidemiologist who said that what was missing from the governments approach was a clear public health strategy. When pressed she said that lockdowns and tiers are not a strategy. The strategy would be to mass test, trace and isolate where required and to make sure the isolations were just that. All the other stuff is just an attempt to control the spread without knowing where it was coming from. Pretty simple really, why haven't they thought of it and put some of that vast expenditure into locally controlled programs that would actually deliver results. As for the impending disaster that will be Christmas this year we are with you in so far as we will be keeping our heads down and hoping that the much promised vaccinations come along sooner rather than later. And that is something that is well worth raising a glass or two too and to echo the sentiment as a toast; "See you on the other side.......Cheers!"

    1. It's political Steve: the fuck wit Cummings has, probably, taken the fall for another sodding group effort at centralism. Local public health mechanisms have been ignored and under resourced to make privatisation look good, an impossibility in my opinion IF your metric is simple cash!!
Wot she said has been said for nearly a year by those IN local public health and those (like MD in Private Eye!!) who can see what's happening to our health & well-being.
Plus the Twat Johnson thinks that HE can control the spread of CV-19 by looking at maps!!!
I'm a fan of technology (we ALL love a bone spinning up into the sky!!) but Kel & I had (still do!!) a motto of: Relevant Technology coupled with Occams Razor which IF applied would consign most of Microshit's products and their outcomes to the dustbin of history!
