Firethorn & Family

Bee on the Firethorn
I've been back at work today, so a quick post. Our Pyracantha [Firethorn] has exploded with flowers this year and the bees love it: the shrub hums like a machine during the day, a beautiful sound to hear in these uncertain times and I'm so glad we've created a garden where wildlife can just get on with what it should be doing; thriving and making more of the good stuff to make our lives all the more pleasant and the world function as it should.
The butterflies are starting to return in numbers, now; it will be interesting to see what species return and in what numbers, compared to recent years. However, it would be a true event if the hummingbird hawk moths made a comeback this year, but I'll not hold my breath - we had a couple of good years of sightings (they are truly wonderful creatures) which were exceptional anyway, so we can't complain.
We've just eaten a fine meal in the garden, accompanied by birdsong, a gazillion fruit flies, the blue-est sky and the first (2-metre distancing, etc.) contact with James & Leo here. Good to see family after so long.
